About the artist and his art
As an artist, I bring an emotional authenticity, depth, and charm to the work that can be obtained in no other way. My journey from U.S. Marine to artist began over twenty years ago under the tutelage of Mr. Gene Nocon, who pioneered the digital art genre as well as a photgrapher for the Royal Family in England.
I am a collected artist with experience in juried competition and frequently show my work in the Museum of the Living Artist in San Diego.
The Jim Boyd Studio focuses on creating commissioned art works for the equine and pet community in Southern California. I can work from good quality photographs of the subject or can take the photos as required.
While I use the computer as my artistic medium, I do not let software do my painting - that is not art. I use a system very similar to what some of the old masters did when they used the "camera obscura." According to David Hockney (a well-recognized artist in his own right) many, including Vermeer used that technology to great advantage. I paint like all artists, I just don't have that messy clean-up when I am done.
